Air infiltration management

Air infiltration management

Intent:

To minimize air quality and thermal comfort issues resulting from the infiltration of untreated air through the building envelope.

The testing methods used to achieve Feature 14 are generally at the discretion of the envelope commissioning agent, as outlined in the NIBS and ASHRAE guidelines. WELL project teams should engage a qualified commissioning agent with experience in at least two projects of similar scope to act as a specialty consultant on the project. This envelope commissioning agent will assess the design integrity of the envelope relative to the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BOD) to determine the most appropriate methods, such a blow door test or the leak testing with thermal imaging camera. During the Documentation Review, the WELL Performance Testing Agent will review that the testing recommended by the commissioning agent was implemented and that any detected issues were addressed or a plan of action is in place to address them.
